Eye Health Although the eye is a very small part of the body (almost as small as a ping-pong ball), it is important in recognizing shape, color, depth, movement and feel of the three dimensional world around us. The eye is a very sensitive part of the body and it should be checked at least once a year through regular eye exam to prevent and reduce the risk of eye disease. Early detection of eye disease can help treat and prevent permanent damage to the eye. Newborns must be screened between birth and three month of age and again between six months and one year of age. Then they can be tested at three years and five years of age, and again once between the age of twenty to thirty nine, and every two years after the age of forty.
