Minerals:

Minerals are nutrients that enable the body to function properly.  The body needs minerals in a small amount, but they are essential for our health and well being. Minerals are the foundation of teeth and bones, they help the body deliver oxygen and carry away carbon dioxide, regulate fluid levels in the body, promote normal functioning of vital organs, and facilitate the function of the nervous system.  Additionally, minerals help  prevent diseases like Cancer, Osteoporosis, and other chronic diseases.  

A high dosage of minerals can block the absorption of other minerals, for example, excess zinc blocks the absorption of copper.  

  There are two types of minerals - major minerals and trace minerals:

  • Major minerals: The body needs more than 250mg a day of these. Examples are calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, potassium, sulfur, and chloride

  • Trace minerals: The body needs these in relatively in small amounts (less than 20mg a day). Examples are chromium, copper,  iodine, iron, manganese,  selenium and zinc
